CompTIA Security+ (SY0-701) builds the foundational knowledge and practical skills required for cybersecurity roles across commercial, government, and defense environments. It is designed for IT professionals moving into security responsibilities, individuals developing a broader understanding of cybersecurity, and organizations establishing a common security baseline across technical teams.

The curriculum spans general security concepts, threats and vulnerabilities, security architecture, security operations, and security program management. Participants examine attack techniques, mitigation strategies, secure network and cloud design, Zero Trust principles, vulnerability management, Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), incident response, risk analysis, and the governance processes that connect technical controls to organizational requirements.

Professionals with approximately two years of IT experience will gain the most from the training, particularly those transitioning from networking, systems administration, or technical support. Knowledge aligned with CompTIA A+ or Network+ provides a useful foundation but is not required. Organizations often use Security+ training to standardize core cybersecurity knowledge, support workforce development, strengthen security awareness among technical staff, and address role-based requirements associated with Department of Defense workforce frameworks.
